How do I connect two desktop computers with one modem and wireless router?

How do i connect the other one to the internet if its across my house? Do I have to buy a really really long ethernet cord?
Could i buy something that i could plug into the back of my desktop so its wireless?

Well, there are plenty of numbers with different activities on the the lid, by the screen, but I do not know how to choose an activity. I push activities and a number, nothing happens.

If anyone knows which one of the laptops I am talking about and knows how to choose activities I would appreciate, so would my hair, as I am pulling it out trying to figure this out!!!

my laptop (toshiba, satellite 1405) is getting old and the real time clock battery is no longer rechargeable. so everytime I turn on the computer, the system clock is always changed back to 1999. I was wondering if I can change the battery myself, or do I have to take it to a computer store (and how much would that cost)?
